Een sculptuur die uitnodigt om anders te zitten, anders te kijken, en anders om te gaan met de publieke ruimte. Acht stalen modules worden aaneengelast tot één compositie. De ene vorm nodigt uit om te zitten of te liggen, de andere vraagt om meer evenwicht of lef. FLAX verandert daarmee je kijkrichting, en daarmee ook de manier waarop je de ruimte rondom je ervaart. Soms kijk je naar buiten — een boomkruin, een voorbijganger, … Soms wordt je blik juist binnenin de sculptuur
gestuurd. Mensen komen dicht bij elkaar, bewust of toevallig. Je hoeft niets te zeggen om toch een moment te delen.
Op vraag van stad Kortrijk werd een versie ontwikkeld die met kraan en vrachtwagen verplaatst kan worden. Afhankelijk van de context kunnen nieuwe variaties ontstaan in compositie, grootte, kleur en verhouding tot de ruimte, en is FLAX inzetbaar op andere locaties of binnen nieuwe samenwerkingen. A sculpture that invites you to sit differently, look differently, and engage with public space in a new way. Eight steel modules are welded together into a single composition. Some shapes invite you to sit or lie down, while others require more balance or daring. FLAX shifts your line of sight, and with it, the way you experience the surrounding space. Sometimes you look outward — a treetop, a passerby, … Sometimes your gaze is directed inward, into the sculpture itself. People come close, intentionally or by chance. You don’t have to speak to share a moment together.
At the request of the city of Kortrijk, a version was developed that can be moved using a crane and truck. Depending on the context, new variations may arise in composition, size, color, and relation to the space. FLAX can be adapted to different locations or developed further through new collaborations.
